Our Planet
From recycling of shipping materials to giving away samples, our programs are making a real impact. At Savannah Essentials, we've cut our waste by 95% through innovative use of soap cuts and recycling programs. In fact, we have hardly any waste at all. We produce one 40 gallon container per week of non recycleable trash. We even use the trace amounts of shower gel left in our mixers to clean the floor and tables afterwards. We're also cutting our energy consumption by using energy-efficient lighting and equipment in our warehouse. We know that what's good for the environment is both good business and good for everyone.
Epicurean has:
- Reused most cardboard shipping boxes we receive from other vendors to either ship finished goods, provide packing material or finished goods storage.
- Recycled all remaining shipping boxes and raw materials packaging (cardboard, plastic, and metal) through Baltimore City.
- Use 100% of our soap cuts (portion of soap that is left after we use our soap bar cutters) and continually give them out at store demonstrations and homeless shelters in the DC and Baltimore metropolitan areas.
- Use 100% of our shower gels and use them to keep the manufacturing facility clean.
Epicurean also focuses on energy savings and efficiency:
- Energy-efficient fluorescent lights are used throughout our warehouse
- In 2008, we began using bio fuels as an alternative to heating oil to make heating our warehouse more envionmentally friendly.
